This question, as well as
"Where Can I Buy Valais Blacknose Sheep ?"
are the two most asked questions.
The Valais Blacknose Sheep are from
the snow covered mountains of Valais in Switzerland.
They became a recognized breed (Walliser Schwarznasen)
in approx. mid 1960's by the Swiss Breeding Association.
They were exported to the UK in February 2014.
USDA does not allow import of live sheep or embryos from UK
due to potential of diseases.
However in 2017 USDA allowed frozen semen to be imported to the US.
This is where our journey begins.
The way to get Valais Blacknose Sheep when we can't import them
is through the "Breed Up" program.

Please note:
You MUST get your Scrapie Flock ID from your state.
It is very simple, but contact your state's Animal Health Commission
and ask them to issue you a Premise ID number.
This is free and fast but you must do this.
Your Laparoscopic AI person must also have
the appropriate paperwork from USDA.
But they likely already know and have that info.
This is generally done simply by email.
This is issued in case an animal dies of a disease
so that the origin of the cause can be traced and isolated.
